New Season and Tulsa Time
My oh my it has been busy in Cam-land lately. I had 2 blogs started last week and was never able to finish them. But, since I’m leaving early today and not really in the mood to work, I’ll put one up!
So on to recent events. Last weekend the Arsenal were in the Amsterdam Tournament, which is another preseason event, and won it as well with a 2-1 win on Thursday against Lazio and a 1-0 win on Saturday against Ajax. Huzzah to the boys. Now it is on to the real thing with the start of the season only days away!!!! I for one can’t wait. The Gunners play at home on Sunday against Fulham, which will be a real indicator on the season ahead. Last season, the Gunners did well against the top teams in the League, but struggled against the lower teams, like Fulham. The
Cottagers have a new manager this season and have made a rash of signings, but I still don’t think they will be playing together as a unit yet. This should bode well for the Arsenal as the lads have been working really well together as of late. Robin van Persie has been playing superbly, Eduardo has his work permit, and most all the squad are ready, healthy and gunning to win. Heck, even Gallas has been positive for awhile. I see a 2-0 victory and a bang to the new season.

The Championship is also about to kick-off and Plymouth Argyle begin their second season under gaffer Ian Holloway. The boss also took the lads to Austria this summer (too bad they didn’t play Arsenal, that would have been one for the books!!!) and is really impressed with their fitness. Lets hope they have a lot of goalness this season as well. The Pilgrims had a good run last time and did pretty well with their new manager, so let’s hope there aren’t any sophomore blues. The boys in green travel to Hull on Saturday and have a Carling Cup match at home versus Wycombe on Tuesday.
Here in the states, Beck’s has yet to play a real match for the Galaxy. It isn’t
really much of a surprise to people who follow football and know he came to the club with ankle knack from England and Real late season matches. The locals though have shown their lack of knowledge and typical American desire for instant gratification by voicing their displeasure over his not playing. This has put the manager and club officios in a bit of a pickle. They want him to play to appease the fans, but at the same time, do you really want to put in a player that costs so bloody much before he’s ready. We’ll see. There are rumors that he’ll play tonight against DC United. He should suit up for the match, and in my opinion, be limited to the bench and possibly a late sub.

So, football is about to begin again in earnest and where will I be? In Tulsa watching golf? Yeah, as I’ve said before, timing was never a strong suit. As the season kicks off, I’ll be watching Tiger tee off at Southern Hills in the PGA Championship. I’m really looking forward to it, though the weather seems to have turned to hot as hell.
That’s enough for now. I’m off soon, so have a great weekend and Up the Arsenal!!
Adios.
