And That's a Wrap!

It’s been awhile since I’ve been on here. There are many reasons, but mostly I’ve been lazy. So, now that the season is over, it’s time to get back to it. Not the best timing, but oh well, if you were looking for up to date commentary on the life and sports, you wouldn’t be here. Anyway, here we go.

The Premier League season came to a close last weekend, and the Arsenal’s match at Pompey pretty much summed up the entire season. A lot of potential, but just didn’t get the job done. The match ended as a draw, which consigned the Gunners to 4th place again and no trophies. At least they qualified for the Champions League next season, so they’ve got that going for them. Which is nice. I really can’t be bothered to put in a recap of the entire season, but I am hoping there are a few players who will go this summer (BAPTISTA!!!) and Wenger brings in some new, experienced, players. A winger to replace Bobby Pires would be nice. We’ll see what happens as the silly season starts up and transfer rumors fly around faster than Rosie O’Donnell on her way to a buffet.

Plymouth did alright this season and ended in 11th place. Though they dropped back out of a chance to make the promotion playoff, they still showed some improvement under Holloway. Hopefully they will come back fitter and slicker next season and give the promotion a shot.

Finally, I just got back from a trip to the Home of Football, the new Arsenal stadium Ashburton Grove. I got to meet up with loads of friends and have lots of pints. It was great to see everyone again and impose my south Texas charm on Londoners. I went to two matches while I was there. The first was against Fulham (3-1 to the Arsenal) and the second was Chelsea (1-1). The Chav match was truly great if you are a fan of football as it was a good match and the atmosphere was electric. I wish it could be that charged up for every match, but with all the prawn sandwich “fans” it is hard to do week in week out. Anyway, good times and good drinking.

Also, I managed to take a Legend’s Tour of the stadium while I was over. The tour guide was none other than Charlie George who scored the winning goal in the 1971 FA Cup Final. Charlie is a great guy and very personable. He made it a point to talk to everyone on the tour and had loads of funny stories to tell. At the end he signed whatever you wanted and I now have an autographed ‘71 Cup photo hanging in my office. One of the highlights for sure!

Well, I’ll see what I can fill this space up with as the summer goes on. The time off from English football will help force me into following the MLS as I have been vowing to do for years now. Go Dynamos! Not a bandwagon fan, but they are close to me, so there you go.

Adios.
